I'm sure others would have dealt their goalies knowing they could have gotten that kings ransom. Holy cow!
Hell, if that's the "market value" I wonder what I could ask for Matt Murray!
I just don't see the justification personally. I think it's a bad deal. I'll try to state my case below, and from what I've heard a few of you seem to align with these judgements...
We can't police every deal where we disagree with the judgement of one of the parties, but in this case it seems very lopsided that we must as a league jump in so that one side does not gain an unfair advantage.
-The 2nd is effectively a 1st round pick, let us always remember that.
-Hischier is a 1st overall bonafide stud
-Konecny is a proven commodity that I know many in this league and outside of it value with even higher upside remaining to be seen.
-Sprong may end up being a fine player but we haven't seen it yet.
-Hertl has a terrible terrible contract and has never eclipsed 46 points.. there are cheaper alternatives on the market certainly but I digress. The recipient appears to put a lot of faith in him.
-And lastly Grubauer.. sure he was a fine backup in Washington, but we've seen this song and dance with backups before.. Lehner Reimer Talbot Condon Raanta Mrazek Darling Greiss....
will he be a Vasilevsky? I doubt it because history tells us it's a tough gamble to win.
If memory serves me correct Colorado tried this with Varlamov from Washington.
